The Power in Original Art and Design in Storytelling

Come watch me illustrate this dragon for my annual Chinese New Year party invite while I talk to you about originality in art + design.

As humans, we have so much creativity within us. It comes from external forces, our unique lived lives, and inspiration from the world around us. Our innate desire to create and make sense of the world is our greatest power. When we dig into our individual stories and our unique perspectives, we create strong and unwavering art that speaks volumes, moves people, and connects us as humans.

Following the trends, copying others, and stealing only puts you in a box. Your creativity doesn’t flourish, and people don’t get to see what unique story YOU have to tell.

To me, I create to tell my stories and those of my clients authentically and with vigor. To help them stand out  — not blend in.

The dragon is such a perfect representation of this because in Chinese folklore, the dragon symbolizes potent and auspicious power, good luck, fortune and prosperity. The dragon is the ultimate protector, repairing and restoring peace and harmony.

Being original really isn’t that complicated. Just be you. So go out continue to create original work. And watch the blessings come to you. The dragon will protect everything that you do.

If you celebrate, happy almost Chinese New Year! + if you’re in Chicago and want to celebrate, send me a message - my home is open for you.
